While most of the excitement, hype and money is around the bride’s gown, we can’t forget the groom. In recent years, grooms’ attire has shifted from a classic black tuxedo to an array of options. I love how men are now able to show their personal style in their suit selections, so let’s go over a few of the styles and trends that have really caught my eye. First, let’s talk the tux or suit.
Classic Black
While this is one of the most common suit color choices, it never goes out of style. There are countless ways you can jazz this style up a bit. Easily make it a super chic look by wearing all black. Forgo the white shirt for a black one and pair it with a black tie. You can play with different material types and textures in order to give the monochromatic look some needed dimension.
Mismatched Jacket and Pants
Think white jacket and black pants. This is a chic trend that many grooms have started to embrace. This look can really help the groom to stand out amongst his groomsmen if they dawn the classic black jacket and black pants.
Colored Suits
And I am not talking the typical black, grey, or navy. I’ve seen some grooms add a little spice to their wedding day by wearing suits in an array of colors, such as green, burgundy, and even pink. This is a great way to really embrace the wedding colors and can look really elegant if done the right way.
No Jacket?
One trend I am loving is the jacketless trend. This is great for laid back, outdoor weddings and looks very put together with a bow tie and suspenders.
Speaking of suspenders, let’s discuss accessories!
Tie, Bow Tie or No Tie?
Ties are a great way to incorporate your wedding colors into the groom’s and groomsmen’ ensemble. While suits and tuxedos don’t come with much variation, this element is one choice the groom has to make. A tie is a great classic suiting piece that really helps to bring the look full circle. While bow ties give suits a nice quirky vibe and can easily be dressed up, or down if you are having a more casual wedding. These have become very popular recently, and rightfully so.
Suspenders?
Similar to bow ties suspenders have become very popular. These look great with a tuxedo at a black tie wedding or without a jacket at a more casual wedding. Grooms have the option to select these in a variety of colors and styles which is a great way to show off their sense of style.
Shoes
Shoes can tell you a lot about man (isn’t that what they say?). Shoes are another great way for the groom to show off his personal style. Whether they want to stick with the basics and dawn a pair of classic black dress shoes, or give their look a little something extra with a pair of shoes in an eccentric color or with some extra detail. One thing is for certain though, always make sure the shoes match the belt for a cohesive look.
As you can see there is just as much (if not more) involved in groom attire as there is in bridal gowns. This is a great element of the wedding to really let the groom take control, since we all know us brides have it throughout most of the planning process. With that in mind I asked my fiance Alex what is currently peaking his interest for his wedding ensemble. Keep reading for some of his responses (in typical Alex fashion) and a good laugh!
B: Do you envision yourself wearing a classic colored tuxedo or are you interested in venturing out and trying a more eccentric color?
A: “Well our wedding color is berry pink and I am not wearing pink so classic”
B: Are you thinking bow tie or regular tie?
A: “I don’t know yet, but it depends on what the rest of the tux looks like. Does that make sense?”
B: Vest or no vest?
A: “It depends on what color I pick.”
B: How about cummerbunds?
A: “I would wear one. Depending on the suit type, ya know tux or business suit or whatever they call them” (if it’s up to me...absolutely not, haha!)
B: Does anything else come to mind when you think about what you would like to wear at our wedding?
A: “Shoes, the dressy kind. Shades. A hat. And a cane.” (he is clearly trying to get a reaction out of me, haha!)
Until next time! Xo,
B
